A baby is born with a predilection for
sweetness, and most people hang on to this fondness for
sweet foods throughout their lifetime. In today's
cognizant society where people buy foods not for its
fancy packing but its healthy ingredients,
‘sugar’ has, nonetheless, been a big NO-NO!
It is believed to be the causative to everything- from
diabetes to behavioral disorders, obesity,
sleeplessness, hyperactivity, and cardio-vascular
ailments. Progressively more evidence is sprouting to
substantiate that this notion has no logical or
scientific root.
This editorial is committed to dismissing the myths about ill effects of sugar on our health and clarifying the legitimate role of sugar in
a balanced diet. In this particular piece we will
discuss the unfounded information that sugar is
contributing to cardiovascular diseases. Everything described in here is
supported by scientific reports and in the newsletters
that follow; we shall take up other myths about sugar as
a causative to disease, in progression.

Despite
extraordinary developments in technology and medicine,
the world continues to be beleaguered by unacceptably
towering rates of death and disability from heart
disease and stroke, and minority populations bear a
lopsided burden of these diseases.

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) includes dysfunctional
conditions of the heart, arteries, and veins that supply
oxygen to vital life-sustaining areas of the body like
the brain, heart, and other vital organs. Simple law- if
oxygen doesn't turn up, the tissue or organ dies.
Many people believe that heart disease and stroke
primarily affect men and older people, but they are the
leading causes of death for both men and women.

According
to this report, "There was no conclusive evidence
that dietary sugars are an independent risk factor for
coronary artery disease in the general population."
This report was a comprehensive assessment that affirmed that
sugar does not cause diabetes, heart disease, obesity,
hypoglycemia, childhood hyperactivity or nutrient
deficiencies.

FDA stated: "Other than the
contribution to dental caries, there is no conclusive
evidence on sugars that demonstrates a hazard to the
general public when sugars are consumed at the levels
that are now current and in the manner now
practiced."

Studies
have yielded diverse conclusions, with no study pointing
to sugar as a clear guilty party in coronary heart
disease. In one study of diabetics who use diuretics, a
high-sugar diet increased the rate of heart disease.
